One person hosts: tap Host a Night, pick a theme, and share the 5-letter code. Everyone else taps Join with a Code. Joining is always free — only the host needs anything unlocked.

Everyone has to be in the same room, on the same WiFi, with Bluetooth on. The first time you join, iOS asks for permission to find devices on your local network — if you said no, turn it back on in Settings → Music Video Night → Local Network.

Some artists and labels turn off embedding, which means the video can only be watched on YouTube itself. When that happens the app says so: if it's your pick you can swap it for another, and the host can skip it. You can also open it in YouTube from the same screen.

Screen Mirroring from Control Center puts the Night on an Apple TV. With TV mode on the TV shows the scoreboard, the chat and what's up next; with it off the TV mirrors your phone, video and all. There is no AirPlay button inside the video — YouTube's player doesn't offer one inside an app. If you'd rather the TV just mirrored your phone, turn TV mode off with the 📺 button on the home screen and reconnect.

Unlock Everything is a one-time purchase, not a subscription: every built-in theme, custom themes, the recap video reel and the Hall of Fame. Recap cards are free. Changed phones? Tap Restore Purchase on the unlock screen while signed in with the same Apple ID.

Nights run phone-to-phone with no server, so there's nothing for us to moderate centrally — but you're not stuck with someone behaving badly. Chat is filtered for offensive words, you can report or block a player from the chat, and the host can remove anyone from the Night immediately. Blocking someone hides their messages and picks from you for good.
